Dietary Guidelines 2015

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) will jointly release the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2015 later this year

  • A sneak preview of some of the highlights can be found in this New York Times article published Feb 19, 2015
    • Of note (*again, these are not official guidelines…these are a couple of recommendations that the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee has submitted to HHS and USDA for approval to be included in the upcoming guidelines report):
      • Sugars are a major concern due to its link to obesity and chronic disease. Be on the lookout for the first specific recommendations (rather than just guidelines) in the upcoming report
      • Dietary cholesterol has little or no effect on the blood cholesterol levels of most people…thus, there is no longer a recommendation that Americans restrict their intake of dietary cholesterol
